March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

by Kate and Mom

Festivities started Friday night with everyone coming here. Great times even without the ice rink Sad smile. U. Jeff’s taught us a new game, the Blanket Game.

Some of the kitchen cleanup crew Saturday after a wonderful brunch at Aunt Sarah’s.

Scary picture: three 16-year-olds.

IMG_1282

Aunt Sarah had a pretty fun game where all the poeple with Bible names lined up in chronological order (how their names appeared in the Bible).  Seth, Abram, Sarah.

IMG_1292

Jacob & Leah and two of their sons: Levi and Benjamin.

IMG_1293

Aaron, Joshua, Ruth, Jesse.

IMG_1297

David, Samuel, Andrew.

IMG_1298

Silas, Julia, Timothy.

IMG_1300

Those of us with non-Bible names got to hang out and watch them trying to line up.

Next came pictures. Always a favorite amongst the cousins...ok maybe not.

Aunt Sarah and the nephews.

IMG_1304

This picture is a little more realistic than the first one.

IMG_1308

Next was all of us nieces with Aunt Sarah. Jake felt the need to be the photographer’s helper and so Aunt Jill caught some fun action shots of him.

Grandpa and Grandma and their kids.

IMG_1333

Next was Grandpa & Grandma and grandkids…things were a bit fuzzy during this time and very chaotic. Not sure what happened to the final picture.

IMG_1337

Things calmed down a bit for a picture of everyone.

IMG_1345

Notice I said “a bit.”

IMG_1357

Correction: everyone except these two beauties who were missed.

IMG_1270

Aunt Sarah gave shirts to the little boys that said Favorite Nephew, and Mindy and Jewel both got Favorite Neice shirts.

IMG_1366

The rest of us cousins got the traditional socks and candy. Complete with the traditional excitement and noise.

IMG_1376

And some selfie sticks.

A Steiner gathering isn’t complete without many rounds of ping pong,

and the name game.

IMG_1418

New this year was charades.

IMG_1410

These Three Stooges made up thier own skit which was a bunch of random movement and jumping around by Josh. Jake randomly yelled out “tornado” and yes he had guessed right Smile (notice Seth being a “wall” and Abram with his head under a…chair I guess.

IMG_1415

Of course the constant roughhousing too…and this was not limited to the little boys I might add.

IMG_1422

Saturday night after church found us back at our place to bring in the new year. After a bunch of pizza and other snacks there was giant Dutch Blitz and 4-part men’s sing and puzzling and more wrestling and more games and lots of other stuff too.

The winners of A. Sarah’s No-Cell-Phone-For-A-Day contest. Of the seven or so that still qualified for the drawing after church, U. Dave & A. Sandy won both prizes.

What a good-lookin’ bunch of lovely new shirts.

The weekend was a great time and we were all glad weather didn’t get it canceled or anything (that Minnesota weather can be pretty nasty and with us living in Illinois you jis never know what kind of weather we might have either).

THE END.
