March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

10-19-15 Moving On

Monday – was the day a certain special young man made Josh’s day by letting him ride while he ripped the 80.

Flurry makes a good neckwarmer.

TMB practice – and who knew why Gabe got a text and had to leave in such a hurry?!!!

Tuesday – was another beautiful day in the country.

Which meant kids raced through school so they could get outside. Kittens (obviously) still receive sufficient attention.

Only three this time, Nate. Be thankful I didn’t post all 127 pictures.

I don’t think the ripper was even off the property before the kids were getting the ground ready for the ice rink. And oh yes, the liner is here too. Kids are ready for ice already!

Wednesday – was the day Tim & I took Josh to Peoria for his eye dr. appointment. I’m happy to report that his new glasses are ordered and will be here soon.

Thursday – was the day we moved Levi’s furniture to he & Echo’s new home. As his renter in his house will be staying awhile yet, Levi&Echo will be living in a different house for a few months. While it’s nice to have the storage space back in the basement, I gotta say it was a funny feeling moving his things out. Not SAD, because, you know, that’s what we hoped he’d do someday; but just funny, like

BLINK, like

where did the time go? and

how can he be 22 (almost 23!) and almost married already? and

ok, we’ve been talking wedding and marriage for a loonng time now, but it’s really here, Lord willing it’s going to happen in – what – 12 days. . .

. . .and it was good.

It’s hard to describe what I mean, but the funny feeling, as funny as it seems, is overwhelmingly good. Just good to see God’s working in Levi&Echo’s lives, good to see them taking this step of faith, good to see their love grow over the last weeks, good to see them both mature and draw together in the planning of their wedding, good to see them tackle issues as a team. We’ve always encouraged complete openness with our kids, but Levi’s to the stage where we flipflop on that – I don’t and won’t want to know his heart like I did a year ago. It’s not my job anymore. I’ve yet to learn how this new role works, but I think my job is to be available and willing to help and listen, as much or as little as I’m needed, but not to just Levi. If Echo doesn’t know it, I don’t want to know it; Levi’s business is not my business anymore, unless it’s Echo’s business first. I have a lot to learn.

Well, that certainly turned into a ramble, sorry about that. Anyway, we had good help for moving things which meant fun for all.

Friday – was the day of this beautiful sunset. I’m sure there were other nuggets to the day, but that was four days ago and I don’t remember them because I have no photos…
