March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

by Kate

Last Sunday afternoon (October 18) we went zip-lining. It was tons of fun and everyone had a great time!

Here are a few pictures for you Dave Smile.

Jesse tried the T-bar (hanging on to a little bar only---like a little backyard zip line) first and so of course Levi and Jake had to do it. It looked really fun and they said the T-bar was the only way to go. Jake said I should do it and it looked really fun so I did it too.  It was really fun and I definitely agree that T-barring is the only way to go Smile.

Thanks so much Dave!! It was a blast!

Last Monday (October 19), we went to town and watched G’pa Steiner’s house get demolished. It’s really something watching a piano get moved around like it’s nothing……

and whole pieces of roof for that matter!

And it was good!

It is a good thing to give thanks unto the LORD, and to sing praises unto thy name, O most High:

To shew forth thy lovingkindness in the morning, and thy faithfulness every night,

Upon an instrument of ten strings, and upon the psaltery; upon the harp with a solemn sound.

Psalm 92:1-3

10-20-15 Saturday

by Kate

Saturday was a pretty lazy day. After a morning of kitchen work for us girls and farm work for the boys, we picked the Fuji apples which are really nice; I think we ended up with about 3 bushels.  The older boys had gone to Farm&Fleet and weren’t here to help but we managed fine without them.

After the boys got back from Farm&Fleet, we worked on the rink a little bit. Jake was helping  Ben and me get the hard side done. Ben and I are going to be doing most of the work this year because Jake is doing an 8 week English class which has tons of writing which isn't giving him much time to get the rink in. Tori helped work on it yesterday too because she had all her homework done. We have two sides done and one corner put in. We’re probably about a third done with the parts that need to be done before the ground freezes. After we get all the stakes in, we’ll have plenty of time to get the rest finished before we need to put the liner in.

No, I did not just hit myself in the head……

Saturday evening we had a whole pile of people to our house for an evening of music and fun. Ready & waiting for guests…
