It has been cold lately. As in, so cold that I have wimped out on more walks than I’ve taken. I’m still getting some good exercise, though; I’m just walkercizing inside, often from window to window watching the kids ice skate or fly over the ground behind the four-wheeler. They’ve had a lot of fun this winter already with the ice rink and the snow we’ve had, and it sounds like it’s not going to change anytime soon. Right now the four older boys are outside playing hockey with a rinkful of friends. Temperature: 20 degrees. Real Feel: 4. But don’t fret for them – they’re keeping more than warm. Several of the kids have shed layers since they started, and they can always warm up in the rink shack if they get cold when it’s their turn off the ice. The girls were out for awhile today and did the same thing – shed layers as they warmed up with exercise. I’m glad. It’s good for them.
We’ve been blessed with good health so far. The Monday before Christmas, we had two pukers, but they were quarantined quickly, and whatever they had wasn’t shared. And it only lasted about twelve hours, so I have no complaints about that. And they both hit the bucket . A few of the kids have had runny noses, a few coughs here and there, but nothing to keep any of them down.
This week we had Josh to the eye doctor, as we’ve noticed one of his eyes turning in. He’s now wearing a patch for a few hours every day, with the goal of strengthening his weaker eye, and his glasses will be coming sometime next week. Hopefully this will correct the problem in the next few months. When he tried on the glasses as we picked out which style – oh my. He is so cute. Stay tuned for his new look in the next week or two.
Since Christmas we upgraded our PA system. I’ve been amazed at how the new mixer can blend the kids’ voices and make them sound better. It doesn’t just amplify them, it also mixes them somehow and makes a fuller, more complete sound. Or something. It’s hard to describe. At any rate, I really like it, and they do too. With a few new songs they’re doing, and a little more time to practice in the evenings, it’s been going good. I never get tired of listening to them, although some of them do get tired of practicing. And Jesse’s description in his post – yeah, that too. Lots of character development opportunities. So tonight we did a program for the residents at Restmor which we always enjoy. After a week of practice with the new set in the living room, we were pretty confident we had it figured out.
Not.
We took it apart v-e-r-y carefully so we could put it back together v-e-r-y carefully just the same way. Parts labeled. Notes taken. Everything color coded. Etc. Well, evidently something didn’t get put back together just the same way, because the speakers didn’t work. Bad deal. The kids still sounded great, but of course I always think that. I think I’m a little prejudiced though.
Time to wrap this up and get to bed, but first a few px.
I was told today was perfect for 4-wheeling.
That’s all. Have a wonderful weekend -
and stay warm!
