March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

8-30-11 Our Tree House

By Kaitlyn and Ben

This spring we were all playing in the tree house when Jesse decided  to build a 2nd and 3rd layer to our tree fort!!! Then on Friday we all decided to play in it.Then Jesse made a 4th layer!!!! When we are in it we are level with the telephone/electric wires!!! It is pretty scary climbing in it. We have made lots of pulleys going from layer to layer and from the layers to the ground. There are 4 in all!!

Spanky our experimenting cat didn’t enjoy his job! (He didn’t have a choice!!!) He got to be the first one in all of the pulleys!!

8-28-11 Would We Truly Long For Heaven?

Ok so I know I’ve used that title before, but it was back here when we hosted Men’s Sing at our house. Beautiful song, beautiful words. Well, today was worthy of that title again, because this is such a beautiful song with such beautiful words, and the Men’s Sing group sang it (and eleven more songs) for us after our regular church services were over. Yesterday I think they said 120 men started singing at 10:00 and practiced each song until it was ready to record, and then they recorded it. They sang and recorded and sang and recorded until 9:00 if I understood it correctly. Of course there were breaks in there, and I suppose the director worked with individual parts sometimes, but any way you look at it, that’s a lot of singing!  For those with strong voices, hurray! For those without, and us ladies who aren’t included, hurray that we can enjoy the CD!  Although our family didn’t participate in any way, due to … ummm… well, mainly a lack of interest in singing for a whole day, among other things, I’m very thankful for those who did all the work to plan meals, prepare meals, keep people overnight, pick the songs, prepare the songs, practice the songs, sing the songs etc. in order to bring this event to our congregation this year. Not only was the group’s program a wonderful blessing, but our regular congregational singing was beyond description, due in great part to the number of visitors, most of whom were here because they  love to sing. I suppose I’m a little prejudiced, because I really like to sing and I really really like our singing, but today’s singing was  - - - well, beyond description.

Head here to find today’s services which includes the singing. (I wonder if the program was recorded – don’t know.)

Dad & his crew of five (Levi was milking) seemed to have it under control, so the three littles and I soon found ourselves at the creek. It had been awhile, and as usual, they had a mahvelous time!

After supper Dad made this measuring board and we walked to the lake to plant it.

And the crabapple treehouse continues to grow. Not sure if I’m excited about this new level. Actually I’m quite certain I’m NOT.

The board is marked to 16 feet (with 2 feet in the ground), but it’s not placed at the deepest part. So someone volunteered to check out the deepest part so we know how deep the lake really is when the board is covered. Actually several someones volunteered, but only two were chosen.
