March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

5-17-11 My Garden

by Ben

My garden is on the south side of the wood shed. I have corn, onions, strawberries, beans, potatoes, one pepper plant, and one tomato plant. Jacob has some carrots in it too.  Jacob and Kaitlyn help me take care of it.

These strawberries have lots of blooms. In this picture the strawberries look big but they aren’t very big yet.

Jacob planted these carrots from the cut end of another carrot. We don’t know if they will make carrots.

We got the onions from Mom’s garden. She was going to throw them away since they were dying, but Jacob, Kaitlyn, and I saved some of them, and they’re doing fine.

The left row of our corn is sweet corn. The right row is kernels of field corn.

This sweet corn is seven inches tall.

I have one row of green beans and one row of yellow beans. These are the greens.

We have three rows of potatoes. Two potatoes are coming up, but you can’t see the other one.

The purple pepper and Sweet Baby Girl tomato plants are doing good.

I have to weed it every day, but I like to weed it and water it.

  1. Good job on your garden, Benjamin! I doubt that very many 9 year olds have their own garden. And this isn't the first year you've done it either! Keep up the good work.
