March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Aah yes the peach crop is good. Very very good.

The bad -

P1220829

Typically corn isn’t supposed to be drying up at this time of year. Neighboring fields are much worse, but this is just south of our house.

Other bad -

P1220832

Lest you fail to recognize this spot, it’s the creek where in past summers we have spent many wonderful hours.

P1220833

There is very very little water flowing here. Without rain soon, we might have no creek. Which hasn’t happened since 1988. And which means we will be hauling water to the nine pregnant cows which currently drink from this creek.

P1220834

Dave’s lake is down too.

P1220837

The shoreline is growing, and once-covered peninsulas are showing up again.

P1220839

The dark dirt around the edge was once covered with water.

P1220840

The ugly - - -

P1220822

Yep, the watermelon are pretty ugly. Sorry Carmen, I guess I can’t teach you how to grow watermelon! The debate rages – did they not get enough water, or was it something else? We suspect something else, because these muskmelon continue to do ok, green and growing,

P1220820

And Grandpa’s pumpkins are very green and thriving!

P1220821

Soooo - -

the jury’s out on the watermelon. They are not ripe, but vines are drying like crazy. Chickenfeed, that’s what it is Sad smile

(the unripe watermelon, that is).

Other - - -

House progress continues.

7-23-12 Our Weekend

by Tori

The last few days have been blurs. Friday we kids and the Koch boys worked on the roof till 2:00, then Jesse took a load of shingles over to the Hopedale Land Fill. Everyone else did chores and by 4:00 Dad and Mom had left to set up for Father/Son Night. The boys left soon after them. Aunt Sarah and Tricia came for pizza, then we went to Aunt Sarah’s and had a big waterfight. The three littles were 100% soaked. I guess we should have taken dry clothes for them, but of course we didn’t think of that. We walked across to the school and they dried off pretty good on the playground before we walked down to Pinky’s for ice cream. After ice cream we came back to our house and by the time everyone was cleaned up, Dad and Mom and the boys were home. Saturday ASK and the Koch boys came, and we finished shingling the west side of the roof and did the whole south side. Since Doug was here from Phoenix, he and Nate came over to have pizza for lunch with Dad. Sunday morning Levi and Jesse left early to go on a young group/high school boys’ trip, and Sunday we went to Matt and Dana’s right after church. That was a fun evening which included softball, ping-pong, around-the-world, dodge ball, kick-the-can, grey wolf, mafia, and lots of talking and laughing.

Almost ready to start shingling Friday.

The big long stretch is what we got done on Friday. Dad helped get started around the chimney and he told Jesse how to go around the electrical.

Ben has a fine new hairstyle.

Josh found a new friend.
