March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

1-21-12 Pond Skating!

Yesssss!! It was great!!!!! Somehow I had this memory of long ago pond skating, and for some reason I remember it as being better than rink skating but I wasn’t sure how or why. Well, Dad said the ice was safe, so we headed down for awhile Saturday afternoon, and - - - - I had remembered right. I’m still not sure why, though; but pond skating is even better than rink skating. Maybe because it’s outdoors, with the sun shining (although once the sun went down it got a lot chillier very quickly, which surprised me). The fresh air, Rascal running around, beautiful surroundings, gorgeous sunshine - - whatever it was I’m not exactly sure. But, it was really really fun. And the kids thought so too, hooray! Levi & Jesse were gone playing hockey with some friends, Josh was enjoying his nap, and Dad was happily working on taxes :).  The rest of us had a great time in spite of a few cold toes and bruised knees.

First – our first cardinal.

1-19-12 Wasted Years

Have you wandered along on life’s pathway,

Have you lived without love, a life of tears;

Have you searched for the great hidden meaning,

Or is your life filled with long WASTED YEARS?

WASTED YEARS, WASTED YEARS, Oh how foolish,

As you walk on in darkness and fears;

Turn around, turn around, God is calling,

He’s calling you from a life of WASTED YEARS.

Search for wisdom and seek understanding,

There is someone who knows and always hears;

Give it up! Give it up! the load you’re bearing,

You can’t go on in a life of WASTED YEARS.

WASTED YEARS, WASTED YEARS, Oh how foolish,

As you walk on in darkness and fears;

Turn around, turn around, God is calling,

He’s calling you from a life of WASTED YEARS.

Don’t you know Jesus died for all sinners?

He loves you and your guilt He gladly bears;

Come to Him! Com to Him! your sin confessing!

You can go on with a life of FRUITFUL YEARS.

WASTED YEARS, WASTED YEARS, Oh how foolish,

As you walk on in darkness and fears;

Turn around, turn around, God is calling,

He’s calling you from a life of WASTED YEARS.

Ask, and it shall be given you; seek, and ye shall find; knock, and it shall be opened unto you; For every one that asketh receiveth; and he that seeketh findeth; and to him that knocketh it shall be opened.  Matthew 7:7-8

1-19-12 Puppies!

by Tori

This morning it was cloudy and gray but now the sun is shining and it looks halfway decent out. Today Aunt Sarah came out for lunch, and after lunch we went over to Tim and Candi’s to see their six adorable puppies before they start going to their new homes. They are terribly cute and made us wish our dog would have puppies. Thank you Aberles for letting us play with Lucky, Teddy, Squeak, Squawk, Java, and Tiny Tank. We enjoyed it a LOT!!!

1-18-12 Ice

by Ben

This is a picture of where the water comes out of the tile that runs underneath the road.

P1160909

This is the same picture but closer. There is a blade of grass in the middle of one of these big chunks of ice.

P1160910

The water at the bottom is not frozen. Some of the water falling down from the tile is not frozen. If you look into the tile under the road, you can see steam.

P1160911

Same picture up close.

P1160912

This is ice that froze over the grass.

It’s pretty neat.

1-18-12 Ted’s Clubhouse

by Benjamin

One day Ted and his friends were playing in the woods when they decided to make a clubhouse.  So they cut down some twigs and made a pile of branches.  They hollowed out the inside and plastered the cracks with mud.  After that they sprinkled a half inch of sand on the wet mud.  Then they wove some grass together to make a door.

“Wow!” Ed said. “I didn’t know we could build such a nice clubhouse!”

“It was Ned’s idea,” said Ted.

They slept out in it for the next two nights.  for food they shot rabbits.  They cooked them over a fire to eat them.  There was a creek nearby that they got water from. At night they slept in sleeping bags in the clubhouse.

“That was fun,” said Fred.

“You said it!” said Ned.

After that the kids said good-bye and they went home.
