March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Weekend

Friday morning started out with a visit to the dentist to get Josh's filling replaced (the one that he had to get after he lost part of a tooth to a hockey puck. Idk if I reported on that yet). He was a trooper. Again. Josh has had a rough month or so.
He earned a trip to Eli's so off we went. Parallel parking Great White is always a good challenge.

Soon after we got home, kids skated at Pekin with a small crowd. I spent some time with AB instead.

Later then, Ella was cute as a button and happy as a lark (and proud as a peacock?) on Diamond all by herself. And Diamond was, as always, a champ.

Thanks someone for px. Idr who took these.

Friday night pizza then a birthday for Jason!

Lucy made this beautiful cake!

Sarah babysat Aria & Jade for awhile. They fit right in and weren't ready to go home when Tami came to pick them up.

*kids really do play with toys as well as look at books!*

Saturday morning inside jobs for girls and me; then Jewel helped with manure hauling and other outside jobs.

Rayna and Oakley didn't want to get off the horses...

but Oakley liked the cats almost as much as she liked the horses.

Too busy brushing to look at me😄

Later - BSJJ did a timber romp. This stunt started out well -

and ended up to be quite entertaining!

Pre-spring days over and back to cool again. Still a beautiful day for a walk after church yesterday.

And a ride on Diamond.

We had a nice evening at GGK then but I got no px, owell.

And that's about it. Have a wonderful week praising JESUS. He alone is worthy!

Springy Winter

 ...or Wintery Spring?

This week has been a lovely mixture of warm/sun with cool/clouds. Not that I'd mind all warm/sun, but hey for early March I'll take the mixture.

These from Jewel, who babysat Tuesday evening:

Too cute not to post!

Wednesday Echo & crew came for lunch.

A walk to the play on the haybales turned into...

a walk through the tunnel.

View from Sarah's end.

And back out again.

Jasper tromped through again and they all ended up by the stream. Idk if the littlests had ever been there before, but they seemed to like it. Mud, water, sunshine, what's not to like?

Home again, and back to the books.

And Jewel found time for a horse ride. We've seen a few deer around lately.

Beautiful evening.

We've seen a few bald eagles lately. Sarah caught this one on camera, through binoculars.

Thursday was a quiet day until Josh had a mishap while cutting kindling to start a fire in the woodburning furnace; his hatchet sliced clean through his fingernail. The bone was nicked but stopped the hatchet from completely cutting off the finger tip. Yeeks. A quick trip to Promptcare and he was all stitched up.

And that's enough about that.

Now Is The Time

Now is the time to love. Tomorrow is too late to rock the baby. Tomorrow the toddler won’t be asking questions. Tomorrow the schoolboy will not need help with his lessons. Nor will he bring home his school and neighborhood friends to share in family fun. Tomorrow the teenager will have made his major decisions and will not feel a need for the nearness he longs for and which we can give him now.  And tomorrow our child will be close to us or a stranger to us depending upon how we use our time for him now.

Farewell, February

Guess I forgot to mention that on Wednesday Josh jumped off a few haybales and landed badly on his left foot, rolling his ankle good. By Thursday it was pretty swollen, and he was not up for skating on Friday. Sarah and Jewel went though, and Roxy shared these px with me. Looks like it was a full rink and I was sad to miss, but such is life. I'm happy to report that Josh's ankle is much better and by the next skate he'll likely be fine.

Thanks Roxy!

Friday night Dad and I did a quick trip to Morton then came home to enjoy a warm evening in the family room with these two cuties and their folks. BSJJ all had other plans so it was a nice small crowd and quite relaxing. I got no px until they were are ready to go. And if that's not adorable then Idk what is.

Saturday morning kp for girls and I. Ben worked. Josh & Dad did their usual CIT and FF runs, then came home to work with cows. That's Josh driving.

I always enjoy Sunday morning tunes.

Sunday was warmer! Dad & I walked outside, hurray.
Then a delicious supper and wonderful fellowship with special friends.

And yesterday was warmer yet...

but I got no px.

Then today was even warmer yet, and a couple cuties came to hang out awhile with their mom.

and then came

the end.
