March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

St. Louis

by Jewel

Saturday we got up early and went to St. Louis. We went to the St. Louis Zoo first which was followed by Union Sation, Ballpark Village, and the Arch.

One of the sea lions at the zoo would follow Jacob’s hand and so if Jacob would swipe in one direction, he’d do a flip in that direction and come back, his eyes glued to Jake’s hand.

There was an arch through the sea lion’s pen which was neat.

IMG_1634

The Asian elephants were pretty neat.

IMG_1635

We were watching the jaguar, I believe.

IMG_1641

We had lunch on the lawn in front of the Union Station. We found out all the Union Station shops were closed (except Subway) and it was going to be made into a hotel and an aquarium.

IMG_1645

We peeked into Busch Stadium and hunted down the Fudgery at Ball Park Village, and then we headed to the Arch. The ride to the top was closed, but we enjoyed watching the movie on how it was built and going through the gift shop.

IMG_1647

We went to the old courthouse which, if I recall, had five layers, two which were not open to the public.

IMG_1654

This was a picture from the courthouse steps.

We got home about 7:30, where we scattered to do chores and unpack lunch from the trip. We had a great time and I hope we do it again sometime.

Glasses Vacation

Was fun to have Kruz again Friday afternoon. He seemed to really like the sandbox.

Jewel decided to bury Josh who was agreeable.

Josh is loving a vacation from his glasses. In a couple of weeks he goes back to Dr. Vahey who will determine if his glasses stay off permanently or if he still needs them. Since he has perfect vision, the glasses have been only to strengthen his eye muscles, to keep his eyes straight since his surgery 2.5 years ago. We’re all hoping this vacation turns into a permanent thing. No promises though…

P1190789

More backyard fun.

P1190791

More precious Kruz smiles.

P1190799

He was so pleased watching Josh on the trampoline.

I didn’t know if the pictures would turn out so I kept taking them – and they all turned out good.

So cute when Kruz would clap for Josh. Nice to have an appreciative audience.

Friday night was Good Friday services at church where we were taken back to that most wonderful awful day when Jesus died on the cross for my sins and yours.

It’s Friday – But Sunday’s a Coming!

Lovin’ The Weather

by Sarah and Mom

Wednesday we little kids helped Grandpa in the garden for a little bit.

P1190752

Yesterday we put the hose in the sandbox for a while. We also had it on the trampoline, but there’s no pictures here.

After supper Mom, Dad, and the little kids went fishing. The big kids were at a singing shower, and I stayed home and read.

She put Skeet right into the pasture after she was done riding and had to take everything back to the barn.

P1190713

After supper, Josh caught three fish (two are not shown) and everybody else caught zero.
