March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

5-3-13 What’s Up?

by Tori

Nothing. We have no major projects going on here this summer, and I think we’re all looking forward to a slower summer. Last year this time we were tearing out the bushes in front to make way for the addition – so things were just about ready to get really busy.

Riding bikes is the the latest fad around here. Jacob and Jesse repaired the broken ones for the kids and whole afternoons are spent riding around the farm.

Dad’s birthday was the 29th (Monday). Jacob started Drivers Ed on Monday also, so for the next 4 weeks that is how he will be spending his evenings 4 days a week. Wednesday he got his permit and he already drove a little bit also.

Guess why Jesse’s covering Josh’s mouth?!

A new bolt bin. Just what he wanted, or rather, just what Jesse wanted but needed a good reason to get. Also, it’s Dad’s 44th birthday. Kind of neat.

These next few pictures were taken by Jewel. Tulips that were planted years ago - every spring a few come up.

Apparently we need to record the dandelion growing in the crack in the sidewalk by the garage man door (which no longer exists either).

Anyone see the potato in this picture? (Actually the potato blasted into several pieces. The smaller chunks are really hard to see without magnifying the picture but the larger one is visible.)

5-2-13 Kickball

Yes we have enjoyed our summer week!!! Yesterday we played kickball at Sauders with a few cousins and friends. Whitley and Josh only lasted one inning, and Mocha was pretty thirsty too.

Break after an inning. It was delightfully hot Smile.

Why didn’t I play? Well, (deep breath), due to an ugly spider(?) bite Friday night which ballooned my right foot something pretty (not)(they called it cellulitis) and irritated the calves on both my legs (agonizingly itchy, hive-y welts), I went to PromptCare Sunday afternoon and was put on an antibiotic and a steroid to fight off the infection and inflammation. Being outside too much Tuesday, my arms got sunburned (from the steroid I’m assuming(?), because I haven’t burned in more years than I can remember), and I wasn’t eager for more sun exposure. I took a few px then worked on my weekly planner in the shade. Glad to report my foot, legs, and arms are much better today Smile. Praise God!!

5-1-13 Saturday

by Kaitlyn

Saturday we worked on planting potatoes.

P1290707

Kids keep Mom supplied with lots of flowers.

P1290708

We also planted a lot of grass. Here Ben and I are waiting for Dad to finish raking in the seed so we can put the straw down.

One of the downspouts hooked up to the house gutter was clogged so we had to find the clog. It ends up that the clog is under the concrete.
