March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

3-23-15 Weekend

by Kaitlyn

Friday evening we kept Creighton and Anya for a few  hours.

Saturday was a really  nice day! It was sunny most of the day and there was a high of 60.

We finished taking down the ice rink. Almost everything is in the shack. After all the edges, goals, and lights, etc. were in the shack, Jake and Jesse cut and rolled up the tarp. It was taken down to the barn until the next trash day.

Meanwhile, Jacob and Dad were trying to burn all the apple branches. The branches were really wet, so we ended up taking them to the south grove.

Dad got a bit too close to the fire and got singed good!

After lunch, Jesse skinned his muskrats.

After a Farm & Fleet run and working with the cattle for awhile, we went down to the pond. Jake had a great idea for a motor boat.

P1050004

It actually works pretty good.  He used PVC pipe so it looks pretty redneck. The motor dies a lot so a paddle is kept in the boat………the paddle is also used to steer. It doesn’t go real fast but it sure beats paddling!

Sunday after church, Lexi, Wesley,Whitley, and Lainey came home with us. First we stopped by their house so they could change, then we headed back to our place for a short afternoon of playing. Sarah and Lexi played with their dolls for awhile before coming outside. Jacob,Ben, and Wesley went to the pond for rides in Jake’s boat. I went down a little bit too. After we got back, Jewel, Ben, Wesley, and I played in the sandbox while Jacob played with the little kids.

We went to back to Leann's for supper and more playing, and then, after supper, we came back home to get ready for the Easter program.

It was a pretty fun weekend.

3-6-15 Trio

These three are supposed to practice a few songs together every day, but it doesn’t always happen. When it does, oh how I love it. Nothing like working on laundry or tidying up the kitchen and hearing a little live bluegrass. Wonderful.

A little later I spotted Ben practicing like this.  It sure doesn’t look very comfortable, but I know it used to be when I was younger!

More skating on another beautiful day – and the first of the mud made its appearance. A wonderful sign of spring, true, but oh how I don’t like this part of it!
