March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Puppy Love

This puppy photo collection is from the past week or so; some px have been posted before and some will be posted again. They just seemed to all go together somehow. It's fun to see how many smiles these puppies elicit.

Random

With puppies right outside my back step, it's really hard to get to my garden these days. Getting rushed and smothered with love by these cute little distractions can make any gray day better.

Josh brought me a beautiful wildflower bouquet last week, and I put it with some zinnias for a delightful centerpiece. I do like fresh flowers on my table. I didn't use to... but now I really do.

*and I know that's not grammatically correct but it is what it is 😅

This was Saturday. Josh took a break from working with Dad and took off across the pasture to see what there was to see.

He and Jacob took the Minne on a little drive to make sure it was ready for Sunday.

This was Friday (yikes, the order of these px is a little wonky. Owell). Joelle is so pleased with her little sister.

And I think this was Thursday evening when Echo stopped by with the kids. I think...

Back to Saturday. I was picking tomatoes (yep, I still have lots but folks have been taking them so I don't have to do anything with them. Win-win.) and craving bruschetta. So I made some for my lunch. Kids thought it looked disgusting. It wasn't. It was phenomenal. I used fresh herbs which made it oh-so-much-better.
*Actually I'd never made it before so how would I know, hmm?*

Sunday after family pictures.

Pure sweetness💖

Home Again

 by Jewel

Wednesday was the day after we got back home from vaca, and so I took Skeet out for a ride since I hadn't ridden him all week.

The puppies were also huge when we got home, and they simply love people. They were a far cry from the little butterballs that they were when we left.

Josh spent a bunch of time working on this cool structure with sticks. It was pretty neat.

More puppy love.

Skeet got to go into the shed the next day, since I was looking for something and was too lazy to get off and tie him up😄

Josh has joined the mowing crew (me) in helping mow the yard, since he needed more to do. I wasn't real willing to share at first, but now I'm resigned to it😄

Pulling out the sunflower plants.

This was Saturday, which is usually a pretty big workday for us, and in this case consisted of hauling loose hay out of the barn to make way and clean up for the incoming cutting of hay...

and the pups get some tlc too (of course). They seem to be the main stars around here lately.

Just a tiny peek at the sunset.

On Saturday night the older kids, except Ben (who was studying), went to a TYG event, and so we had a fire at home and just hung out. Ben flew his drone and I rode Diamond and Skeet, and I dunno what Josh did. He probably played with puppies.

The puppies are really big fans of Josh, or anyone who'll play with them.

Sunday afternoon activities.

A. Sarah and Abigail came over to see the puppies as well.

We had a photo shoot with all the kids Sunday night too. Prom took our pictures, and then Levi's and Jesse's stayed for supper and the evening.

Levi and Jesse's example of how Echo and Lucy should bake chocolate chip bars: slightly brown on the outside, but any more than what's pictured below and they'll be overdone. Everyone agrees that the bars below are perfectly done.

Tuesday. Getting hay from CIT.

And the puppies get yet more love.

Wednesday we didn't have Clay but we did have Jenna, Lucy, Echo, and Melody over for lunch.

The kids had a blast.

So did the puppies.
