March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Independence Day

by Jewel

July 1 (which would have been a Monday) was super hot, and since when the cow pasture got baled there were some popped bales, Josh and I got the job of loading the loose hay into the four-wheeler wagon and putting it by the barn for the horses.

Melody came over then for lunch and swim at the lake. We had to stop and look at the puppies first though, since they were so cute.

Kenzie loved  the lake, and even though Jimmy was pretty leery at first, he liked it pretty well by the end.

Tuesday evening Levi and Echo came over for awhile, and the kids loved the puppies.

What a big grin!

On Wednesday Sarah had Kruz down at the lake, and Katie had Cason and Clay. I think Kruzie liked the lake a lot more than he used to, because he kept inching deeper and deeper into the water. Cason and Clay had a blast too. Clay loves water and will go flopping into it, and Cason loves shooting people with water guns.

When Karol came to pick up Kruz, she stayed and let Moise swim for a while. His swimming consists of doing the Dead Man's Float for 30 or more seconds at a time.

I don't know what this picture is of. I guess it's supposed to be showing how muddy the garden is.

Then at 3:00, we kept all four Aberle kids till 6:00. Needless to say, it was a busy day.

Pretty skies.

Independence Day consisted of getting up at 8:00 to get apples done so we could be at the lake for lunch, which we had down on the dock.

We had a fun time with Olivia, Ben, and their cousin Jonah.

Josh and Jesse had an interesting catch down at the creek. I think it's the first time any of us have ever caught a goldfish in the creek.

Grandpa and Grandma came over for supper and the evening, and Tori, Katie, and Ben went to Peoria fireworks with friends. Grandpa and Grandma thought the puppies were so cute but didn't think they wanted one in town.

More beautiful skies.

Friday we went down to the lake for awhile after our Friday jobs and mowing were done. We played with the Fischer kids and Jonah for awhile before we went down to the creek for about fifteen minutes.

Mom took this from her new kayak.

The puppies are starting to play with each other more. They're really cute.

Kochs came over for an Independence Day celebration, and Kiowa and Scarlet played so cute together.

Kiowa was so cute when she asked Grandpa if it was time for "'zert." (dessert)

I think Katie took these pictures and sent them to Mom, but they're still so cute! Comet (the puppy) probably liked it as well as Scarlet did.

 Saturday July 6. More applesauce.

More lake also, only with Levi and Echo thrown in the mix as well. Kiowa learned how to doggie paddle, and she loved swimming back and forth between the dock and the beach, and "jumping" off the dock.  (She really got dropped in by someone because she didn't quite get the jumping idea.)

Things got kind of crazy for awhile.

Saturday afternoon it was so hot that Tori brought the pups inside, because they were panting really hard. They all loved it inside.

And that's the end of another great Fourth of July week.
