March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Memorial Day Weekend

by Jewel

On Friday this big branch randomly fell out of the crabapple tree. Sarah was out weed-whipping and heard a whoosh and looked over and it was on the ground. Apparently it got rotten or something.

Friday night all the kids came over. Everyone was home, because the big kids were leaving for Alabama for a young group invite on Saturday.

Kiowa and Flint were both really happy.

Jesse managed to break the swing somehow, but some good ol' twine fixed the problem.

Ben thought it necessary to climb the tree,

and so Kiowa was pretty impressed with that.

There was a cool little sundog thing. I'm not sure what it's really called.

Flint was impressed by Ben too.

The snow cones were a pretty big hit, and Flint really liked them, even though there's no pictures of him eating it.

On Saturday morning, Dad, Sarah, Josh, and I hauled out about seven loads of manure with the fourwheeler and wagon before Levi and Echo finally came over and we switched to the manure spreader. Things went a lot faster then, especially with Levi helping.

After it was done, Levi sprayed out the skid steer, because they'd used that some.

Kiowa really likes the horses, so I guess in this picture they're just petting them, even though it looks like Sarah's bringing them in.

Once Levi and Echo left, we went down to the lake, where Jesse and Lucy were also. Josh went down to the creek though, and found a little buddy for York, our other turtle. In the end though, Josh gave it to Levi.

Josh made this cool dam.

Once we got back, there was a big clean-up session, including putting this chair in the trash.

Mom's dreaming of the garage staying just like this.

The big kids, who were driving down to Alabama, had some excitement 30 minutes from their destination. They were caravanning with the Rinehart van when they had to slam on the brakes. The Rinehart van behind them did the same, and was fine, but then was pushed into our van by the truck behind them.

The van that was pushed into us is now totaled. But no one got hurt so that was good.

Sunday we went down to the lake again for a while, even though it was kind of cloudy.

I don't know what these pictures are from. Mom must have taken them.

Sunday night we went to Grandpa and Grandma's, and Levi and Echo's were there too.

Monday was another workday, but Dad let us have a break and a Mountain Dew.

I used some of my breaktime to ride Diamond around the field.

The zoo got some clean-up.

Jesse was here for a while, working on his paddle board, which wasn't in best shape after sitting out  in the weather for several years. In the end he decided he would just make a new one, so hopefully if he gets it done in time we can use it this summer at the lake.

Hauling away branches from the walnut trees.

Josh was also building something or other for the chick pen.

And something for his pigeon coop.

So that's the end of a good Memorial Day Weekend.

The End.

Littles

by Sarah

Last Tuesday we got to have three little Baers. Ella was pretty pleased that she got to help make cookies...

… and she was even more pleased when she got to eat one.

It's great that Josh has started to enjoy reading more! Not sure where Jack was at during the picture, but at some point he was also reading with them.

Kinsey came over later that afternoon to hang out for awhile.

And we are still working away at the wood pile.

And the sky is cloudy. Again.

Stacking wood.

Wednesday we babysat Ben and the three little Aberles. We didn't have Cason and Clay, since we were going to have them on Thursday instead. Kinsey also came over for awhile, and Echo stopped by with two little cuties, so we had a pretty busy day.

Flint was so cute in his little overalls!

Wyatt and Josh worked on cleaning up the wood scraps for a lot of the day.

The cats got lots of attention too. Although after about 10 or 15 minutes of little kids hauling them around, they all suddenly disappeared. I wonder why:)

Of course if it's a hot day you have to have popsicles!

Thursday we had two little Sauders.

Little heartbreaker was a  little heartbreak (like normal).

Rocking the shades! (Isn't he so cute?!)

Josh picked Mom these pretty ditch irises.

Since we now have an ice shaver, snow cones have been a huge hit. Clay was pretty intrigued with the snow.

Both of the boys loved the snow cones. They had several servings each.

Jake is moving in with Jim in a few weeks, so he's started moving his things over.
