March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Welcome Bugs!

We've had some really nice days and some really cold days and some really windy days. One of the kids told me about this schedule for IL:
7:00 - Spring
noon - Summer
4:00 - Fall
8:00 - Winter
And sometimes that's not far from the truth! Anyway, we've enjoyed the nice days for sure and aren't even one bit annoyed by the flies and mosquitos. Bring them on. That means it's time for summer,  and
 We Are Ready!

This was a couple weeks ago already, last Tuesday evening April 9th. Dad helped Dave and Ryan with a few spring projects on the church/fellowship hall lawn.

A couple days later - Thursday April 11 - favorite spring project.
not!

Horses are happy too.

Last Saturday April 13. Levi came by for awhile, and Kiowa got to ride on the hay rack while a crew did some fencing.

She was a little (or a lot) nervous getting close to the cows. They were bellering  pretty loud. A lot different than watching them across the road from the house!

She wasn't a bit nervous about the 4wheeler though!

Think of the crown of thorns on our Saviour's head. Amazing how much He loves us.

Pretty loud but little tyke was a good sport!

Until she got tired. Now how's that for a sweet picture?

I was walking with Tori after the fencing was done when Dad drove by with three kids in the truck and wondered if I wanted to go to a IHSRA rodeo with him in Delavan. So I did, and the kids loved it. I enjoyed the barrel racing but certainly wasn't in love with the bull riding. These kids on the bulls were ages 14 to 18!

This was the next morning!

Before church -

Driving to church!

After a Monday of 50s or so (I kind of forget), most of the snow was gone :) :) :)

More spring work with cattle - weaning calves.

For the record. More manure in this shed than Dad's ever seen before. That just means it was a long hard winter.

Last glimpse of snow for the year - - -

Brandi went nuts at the lake. She raced around and around like a crazy thing.

Couple more pictures for the record -
Beautiful green front yard.

Not-so-beautiful backyard.

Was fun to have Blayne and Kennedi here last Monday. They seemed to enjoy the farm :)

Tuesday April 16. Gorgeous sunrise.

Kept a little cutie while her daddy had a checkup. He checked out great!

Last Wednesday we had another little crowd here. Thankful it was so nice out!

More spring prep - lots of eyes watching the mower get unloaded after its annual checkup.

First picnic! Left to right: Kate, Henry, Ella, Clay, Jack, Cason, Jovie on Sarah's lap, Kennedi.

Photo cred for these next px to Sarah. Thanks Sarah!

GREAT to have all kids here for supper that evening. It just doesn't happen much anymore. And it was a beautiful evening for the fire burner after supper.

Good to have a sweet Kruz here again on Friday.

And a sweet Gloria ;)

It must've been cooler that day because everyone was inside. Probably hoping for more bug weather. At least I was!

And that was Good Friday which was so so good for us but so so awful for our Lord.

Oh, how He loves you and me!
He gave His love, How much more could He give?
Oh, how He loves you!
Oh, how He loves me!
Oh, how He loves you and me!

*lyrics to a song on an album from my young group days. Wish I knew the rest of the song or the title but I don't.

For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. John 3:16
