March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Steiner Christmas

Well, so down here on the Kaiser Ranch I've been having problems getting my blogger program to publish for me. I'm back to using the Blogger platform which seems to be much more user-friendly than it has in the past. This will be kind of a test post. If it goes ok and I don't have to tear too much hair out I'll keep plugging away this way for awhile. If it doesn't go ok and I'm losing sleep over the dumb deal, well, blogging might just end for awhile. I have enough headaches without it.

Anyway. This goes way back to the Friday after Christmas when we had a houseful of little Baers and Aberles while their parents butchered. Fun times.

Later that afternoon then U. Jeff's rolled in, just in time for supper with our kids and then they took off for various places, most of them heading to Disney on Ice. From all reports it was an amazing display of ice skating that I won't want to miss next year. We'll see. Dad & I, U. Jeff & A. Jill, and A. Sarah met U. Dave & A. Sandy at Alexander's for a rare night together. Good times.

The fun continued on Saturday afternoon at the Pekin Ice Rink. Although we missed U. Dave's, who had another Christmas to attend, it was still a great time. The rink was pretty empty - 25 skaters or so, and half of them were us. So fun.

This little squirt was one big smile from start to end. She did great for her first time on skates.

Worked out nice for Levi and Echo to skate with Kiowa while I got to hold Flint. My skates were being sharpened anyway so I was glad he could keep me warm :)

A. Sarah got a snuggle during a water break. Cutest. little. guy. ever.

The whole crew, including Cooper who adopted us (or who we adopted?), minus A. Sarah who took the picture (and all the px on ice).

The rest of the crew. Flint was so intrigued the whole time - huge eyes just taking it all in. I enjoyed watching him watch the action as much as I enjoyed watching the action. After awhile then, in about ten seconds, his eyes fluttered once or twice, and that was it; he was out like a lightbulb. It was adorable.

And the kids were off to the races. If I had half the energy of that crowd, I could be president.

I can't remember why Jesse & Lucy didn't skate with us, but after skating, we headed over there for snacks and games. No px though.

Later on - Delicious supper and evening at A. Sarah's, minus U. Jeff and A. Sarah who took Grandpa to the ED because of chest pain. Everything checked out ok and Grandpa got to come home.

Sunday after church we had naps and chores and supper and a few gifts and a lot of puzzling and games and some really fun soapboxes. Precious memories.

Later on, a crowd went to watch the Christmas show Lights on Main. Pretty impressive.

Still later on, this group played a hilarious game of Mao which didn't end until after midnight. Fun for players and watchers both.

And that's it for Steiner Christmas 2018.
