March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Independence Day Project

So this was bright and early Tuesday morning. Tori and Sarah were assigned to video, and I was assigned to photograph. Here’s a glimpse of the morning -

Up she goes.

It’s huge. Laying on the hill, it didn’t look as tall as the barn as Jacob kept insisting it was. He was right. It is as tall as the barn.

That whole process took only took a couple of minutes, and then the real work started. These guys mixed and poured cement for a long time.

They had quite the set-up going. A generator powered the cement mixer and the sump pump which was in the lake (in a bucket with holes drilled in it so no gravel would get sucked up) pumping water through the hose to the cement mixer.

P1200929

Was a beautiful morning but very very hot.

P1200930

P1200931

Amazing how hard a crew of boys will work for the fun that follows.

P1200934

P1200939

Some cleanup while the concrete set, and then Jacob pulled the tele-handler away.

P1200942

Not sure why it took four guys to hook up the rope. I think Jesse actually got the honor.

P1200945

P1200946

Ornery Jacob wouldn’t let them down right away. Kept telling them to jump.

P1200947

Which they did once their phones and glasses and wallets were safely ashore.

P1200951

Not sure why all operators had these big grins. Must be the big boy toy thing.

P1200952

First jump.

P1200953

Micah went up really high.

P1200954

Jr. jump for littles.

P1200960

They loved it too.

P1200961

Crazy kids. Kept wanting to go higher each time.

P1200962

Ben.

P1200969

I missed the video of the first swing, which of course was done by Jacob.

P1200972

Umm. That’s a big drop.

P1200975

Jacob did the highest swing of all.

P1200976

P1200977

P1200978

Crazy high!
