March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

The neighbor’s field has had water in it a lot this spring…….actually the green tint on the dirt is moss.

More Sunday afternoon activities.

We’ve had a terrible peach crop this year. There have been a few “pick up and eat” peaches but nothing like two years ago when we had bushels and bushels of really nice ones.

Yesterday was a rather busy day. Jake had a follow-up Dr. appt. in Peoria in the morning, and it was Mom’s day to drive for drivers ed. We had to leave about 12:00 so we would have enough time to get to all the bus stops to pick up the other kids. After dropping off all of us kids at class, she took the little kids and did errands in Pekin. The good news is that she has driven three out of her four times which means we’re over half done.(!!!)(She only has to drive four times total because we are carpooling with three other families.) We got home a little before 4:00 which doesn’t leave much of an afternoon for working and playing. After supper we had a huge water fight. Levi and Jesse even joined, making it very entertaining. It included a lot of five gallon buckets full of cold hose water getting dumped on peoples’ heads.

Today has been really slow. I will get picked up for drivers ed about 12:30, but other than that we don’t have much going on.

                                                                        THE END.

Editor’s note: Today has been relatively slow. Compared to yesterday, it’s flying by at a snail’s pace. But the laundry line is still full, the beans were picked and pulled (too buggy and few blossoms) and frozen, I have yet to finish Kate’s skirt that I started last week, the strawberry patch needs to be weeded, and there’s ironing waiting to be done. Which is why Kate did this blog post for me, thank you Kate!!
