March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Baking Week

Last week we got to keep Miles for a day. He loved his tractor ride with Ben and Sarah.

Kate kept a few other faves that day too.

*no, Brandi is not preparing to take a bite out of Miles' head. Really, Miles does like Brandi*

And oh my, isn't he the sweetest little thing?!

Beautiful fall day, perfect for sandbox.

We served lunch at church last weekend and for the first time did some baking. These Cinnamon Rolls turned out beautifully. There weren't many left after Sunday, and I heard some nice comments about them. Which I greatly appreciate because my family doesn't love them anymore. Unless they're fresh from the oven. So I do have to wonder if something's wrong with them?!?
Hmmm.
Maybe something is wrong with my family.

Happy Birthday Jesse

Wiener Roast

by Sarah

Sunday afternoon Jacob and Josh got the Minne fired up.

That night we had a wiener roast at our house.

After supper we went on a hayrack ride.

It drizzled for about 20 minutes after dark, so we gathered in the shed and sang for a little while.

*photo creds for next couple photos: Suzanne*

Dale, Ben, Wesley, and Jacob led the singing.

The drizzle didn't chase the little boy crowd in, so Tim enforced fire safety.

These two were so cute playing together.

After the singing, people pretty much just hung out, played games, and talked. Little kids really liked the fire.

Then after everyone else had left, Rollyn and Suzanne stayed for a little while. Josh and Wyatt were very busy playing in the fire:)

And that's it! It was a really fun evening and we were glad so many could come!

Last Week

by Sarah

Last Monday we took the paddle board down to the lake for the first time. It worked super nice and was really fun. It will definitely be getting lots of use next summer!

And the trailer is also extremely handy.

We had gotten apples from Uncle Mark's and from Christine, which we got out so we could do them on Tuesday.

Monday evening we did a major shed cleanup, and I must say, it looked much better afterwards.

Tuesday Echo and Melody came over to help with apples.

Jimmy "helped" me do school.

After apples were done, Echo went home and Jimmy went down for a nap at our place. When he got up we went down to the lake for a little while.

And more shed cleanup.

Wednesday we had this little guy who was very impressed with the preying mantis that we had at the time.

Then three little Baers came over for a while too.

I think we were playing "Baby Shark" which is Clay's favorite song.

Clay was pretty sure he wanted to play the fiddle too. Some horrible sounds came out of it upon letting Clay do it.

Thursday Dad took off work to get our new four-wheeler from Cupi's.

Saturday I babysat Kruz for the afternoon since Jim and Karol were at a wedding.
