March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

December

by Jewel

Last Saturday Tori and Sarah made peanut blossoms, and Josh and I helped too. I think this was Josh’s work.

I’m not sure what the point of these were. I guess they wanted some variety.

Sunday night we were invited to Marv and Paula’s. They had some cut-out cookies which we decorated, although the older girls definitely were better at it.

So then Monday was Kiowa’s birthday, and we watched Flint and Kiowa a little bit for Echo. However, Echo had some time so we let Kiowa open some gifts we had for her. The first thing she said when the saw the crib and blanket was “Mine, mine.” Typical kid!

We also got her this little wagon we had found at Mission Mart, and she liked that too.

The pillow and blanket Mom made for her.

Tuesday, Mom made rolls.

IMG_0844

We kids also made some covered pretzel rods.

November’s End

by Sarah

A few weeks ago we went bowling in Pekin. After we finished bowling we went to Steak ’n’ Shake for a snack.

Thanksgiving Day, Thursday November 22. We had a small crowd of Kaisers. The only kids were us, Samuel and Kinsey, and Ben and Olivia. Some of the adults played settlers of Caton, while us kids were in the basement or outside. Samuel and Josh had moved around some couches, so that the basement had an obstacle course effect, which made walking slightly difficult. At that point, Jacob and Olivia had established that they were BFFs, so Olivia got Jacob to play hide and seek with us. It was a pretty epic game.

IMG_0718

Sarah sent us this picture while they were on their way home. Ben and Olivia were wiped out.

IMG_0719

After everyone left, we kids settled down in the living room to watch a movie. Dad had been watching it with us until he decided to get a snack. It turns out that when he tried to move the container of gravy, the lid slipped off, resulting in gravy going everywhere. That provided quite a bit of amusement for us kids.

Friday Levi’s and Jesse’s came for supper and the evening.

IMG_0727

When Kiowa saw us doing music practice she wanted to do it too.

IMG_0728

Flint was pretty intrigued with Jacob’s guitar. He watched it for quite a while.

These guys were bored, so they played Settlers Of Catan.

IMG_0737

Saturday, November 24 we went to Uncle Randy's new hog farm open house. Levi’s also went, and Kiowa loved the piglets.

IMG_0747

Sunday, November 25 we went up to Congerville for Marie's baptism, and then Levi’s came over for the evening. Legos has been the latest favorite toy, besides doll house.

IMG_0752

Flint was so happy.

IMG_0756

We made some popcorn for snack. Kiowa loved watching it pop.

IMG_0758

Little Legos also came out, and Levi and Josh built a fort.

IMG_0762

Monday, November 26 we woke up to more snow…

IMG_0765

… and snow means fourwheelering!!

IMG_0766

Wednesday, November 28 we had a crowd of kids. We had the normals, which are Cason, Clay, and Ben, and then we also had three little Baers, and at 12:30 we had three little Kaiser cousins as well!

Three little boys helped Kate make cupcakes.

IMG_0770

Brooks loved his ping-pong ball…

IMG_0787

… and Jocie loved her kitties!

IMG_0788

Echo also came for lunch, so we had Kiowa and Flint too! You know the old saying, “The more the merrier!'”

IMG_0789

Cason currently has a crush on Ella, and really wanted to hold her. She wasn't too pleased about it though.

Thursday, November 29 we put on a program at Restmor.
