March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

12-22-15 Babysitting

by Kate

Jesse put out a few traps a couple weeks ago. Josh likes to go out and help Jesse & Ben check them.

Friday we babysat these stinkin’ cute kids for a few hours. They were both good as gold which always makes for a really fun morning babysitting.

Our big bull tractor is Henry’s all time favorite toy at our house. He loves it!

This is the smile that just lights up his whole face. So adorable. He loved playing “chase” with Josh in the basement.

P1100690

And we definitely didn’t have any problems keeping Jack entertained Smile.

P1100694

Henry got brave enough to play the piano.

P1100695

Thanks for letting us keep the boys Jenna! It was so fun Smile.

Lessons on how to cut bread one Sunday morning……

12-19-15 CatchUp

Hooray, finally got it figured out - - at least this time, anyway!!

I think this was last Monday – very very foggy morning. I started out to do errands, not realizing how thick it was, and turned around and came back home after one stop (which included a delightful cup of tea so wasn’t wasted at all, oh no!).

P1500241

Basement piano duets make my day.

P1100586

I went to get gluten with Dad one morning last week. While he & Ben unloaded it, I watched for cars so I could flag them down since the truck kind of blocked the road. Thankfully, there was no traffic. Was a beautiful morning to be out!

P1100588

Yes. Loving that blue sky.

P1100590

P1100592

Another duo I enjoy immensely.

Josh watches the sausage cook,

while the rest were mixing and packaging, and I was hauling it all to the freezer.

P1100603

That was Saturday, and that night we enjoyed a wonderful time at Kaiser Christmas. I forgot my camera, though, so I have ZERO pictures of all the fun and joy! Thanks so much, Grandpa & Grandma, and U. Jerry & A. Marcia, for hosting yet another blessed evening.

Sunday evening spiffin’ up for the Christmas program Smile

P1100606

Monday morning, Josh & Anya had a great time camping - - - right in the kitchen!

P1100608

On Wednesday, Jesse had his last final (YEAH!!!), and then set a few traps with Ben & Josh. A beautiful day for a horse ride too.

P1100609

Not sure what to say here.

P1100611

Oh how we enjoyed our three little visitors last night. Love Ava’s smile!

P1100619

The older kids were practicing, and Ava was with me in another room – she was so precious as she asked me so sweetly if she could sing in the band too. Who can resist that??! She did a great job!Note

P1100637

Everyone enjoyed Wyatt too – gotta love an almost-two-year-old. His excitement with life is so fun!

P1100638

No, he wasn’t eating the microphone; he was saying an enthusiastic “HELLO!”.

P1100640

And of course Bristol was never lacking for attention either Red heart!

P1100644

Ava was fascinated with my “kids’ camera”; she took quite a few interesting photos and entertained us all with her commentary.

P1100647

And Wyatt just didn’t want Kate to put him down - - - which of course she didn’t mind one bit!

P1100648

Love to watch kids’ fascination with new things – lava light, in this case.

P1100652

And that’s it for this time around. For sure it’s not everything that’s been going on around here, but just a few highlights lately.

O LORD, thou art my God; I will exalt thee, I will praise thy name; for thou hast done wonderful things; thy counsels of old are faithfulness and truth. Isaiah 25:1

12-19-15 Issues

After the umpteenth time of trying to publish a blog post using Live Writer, I'm giving up for now. Blogging has had issues lately. Back on December 11 or so, Windows Live Writer was disabled and a new program, Open Live Writer (tech-y differences that I really don't care about) was available. After a few days of trying to install it (tech-y difficulties on their end - whoever "they" are), I finally got it installed, yeah! I quick published a "test" post, and sure enough it posted. As it was just a test, I deleted it and did the full post yesterday, fully intending to post it of course, under the (false) assumption that everything is fine. Not so. Now I get the error message "403 forbidden." Googling that message taught me that it's a Google issue which I have very little hope of correcting myself; but other bloggers who are a lot more blog-dependent than me are hollering also, and so we wait until Google gets things figured out. Whatever that means. Meanwhile, I'm back to blogging the old way - within Blogger itself. Which is not conducive to posting pictures at all. So I wait. If Google doesn't get it figured out soon, I might try my hand at pictures through Blogger. Or I might not. Anyway, we are alive and well and loving life and thankful for health and peace and most of all for Jesus!

Unto thee, O God, do we give thanks, unto thee do we give thanks: for that thy name is near thy wondrous works declare.
Psalm 75:1

12-11-15 Rejoice!

And the seventy returned again with joy, saying, Lord, even the devils are subject unto us through thy name. And he said unto them, I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven. Behold, I give unto you power to tread on serpents and scorpions, and over all the power of the enemy: and nothing shall by any means hurt you. Notwithstanding in this rejoice not, that the spirits are subject unto you; but rather rejoice, because your names are written in heaven. In that hour Jesus rejoiced in spirit, and said, I thank thee, O Father, Lord of heaven and earth, that thou hast hid these things from the wise and prudent, and hast revealed them unto babes: even so, Father; for so it seemed good in thy sight.

Luke 10:17-21

We rejoice that Sarah’s name is now written in heaven as she has answered God’s call to serve Him. We are so thankful for His grace to grant repentance!

12-7-15 Snapshots

Well one of these days I’ll do a nice long newsletter-y type post, but for now here are a few snapshots of life lately.

These cold dark days bring warm snuggly inside evenings.

P1100528

College is exhausting.

P1100530

Sunday morning highlight.

P1100531

P1100532

Last Sunday evening ASK helped us do this BRAND-NEW puzzle that she brought over (as in, we tore open the sealed bag). What a disappointment to find it was missing a piece!

P1100541

With the wood-burner going, there’s a fair amount of competition for these two warm-as-toast study spots.

P1100542

P1100543

P1100559

P1100564

Oh how Anya loves kittens!

P1100567

P1100568

A new way to enjoy puppy chow.

P1100570

Tori couldn't even take her coat off after class before she was helping to finish the puzzle.

P1100572

If you ever see footprints on my frig – well, here’s why:

P1100574

Hope you’re rejoicing in this beautiful day that the Lord has given us!
