March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Florida 2023-24

For obvious reasons, life has morphed into hyper-speed again!
Going back a month or so - we stopped at this pyramid in Memphis en route to FL. Dad and I ate supper in the car whilst Sarah, Jewel, and Josh scarfed their sandwiches and zipped inside.

Dad & I finished our supper and watched as the kids rode this elevator to the top.

They're in the elevator... and that's a real alligator. Quite an amazing place.

Photo creds to Sarah (I think) for this next picture.

On to FL. A couple days on the west side where the main goal was shark teeth.

Ben found this big one right away.

Cold water, but beautiful skies and interesting sights 😄

Wes was in town for work! Was fun to have him join us for part of New Year's Eve.

The clock was incorrect. We did not eat breakfast at noon😏

The actual address of our west side house was Rotonda, FL. It was a fascinating town, because it was in a circular shape, with canals forming the perimeter and "spokes." Like this:

So every single house had water access. Quite interesting. Our view out the back door.

Sunday evening (I think)(things are a little fuzzy a month later) we picked up Kaitlyn from the airport in Punta Gorda.

Then Monday morning we drove across the state to Ft Lauderdale. Dad and I dropped kids off at the beach near here then headed out for groceries and to get Tori from the airport.

This house was 4 houses from the beach. I thoroughly enjoyed the sunrise every morning. This was Tuesday, the best one.

Beautiful place.
Saw no rats and only one iguana in the neighbor's tree😅

Everyone helped with meals and we ate well!

Wednesday morning.

Wednesday was Everglades Day.

After the airboat ride, we found "Loop Road" which was out in the boonies = lots of alligators. Highly recommend to anyone in the area!

How To Spot Alligators.

B&C enjoyed the sunrise one morning. Thursday, I think.

Friday morning Dad joined me. So pretty.

Friday we checked out of the house and were glad we could spend time with AShirley! Dad and Josh really enjoyed their taxi ride.

It was cool, but the rest of us enjoyed the sunshine and visiting with AShirley anyways.

After a delicious lunch, we took Tori to the airport and headed north around 2:00pm. We drove straight through the night and it was brutal. Idk if we'll attempt that again. We arrived home around 10:00am and it was COLD but be it ever so cold and humble, there is just

NO PLACE LIKE HOME.

Blessed

We are rejoicing with Jason & Kaitlyn as their engagement was announced on Sunday!

Enter into his gates with thanksgiving, And into his courts with praise: Be thankful unto him, and bless his name. Psalm 100:4

Family Times

Christmas Day 2023.
Kids had a nice afternoon here while I planned Grandma's funeral with UDave and ASarah and Dad did chores; then Dad joined us to help clean out Grandma's room at Restmor.

Nice to have a crowd here Wednesday after Grandma's visitation.

Remembering Grandma.

Grandma's funeral was Thursday and it was a beautiful service. God be praised.
After a delicious dinner and precious fellowship, I went home to put the house back together, take a nap, empty the frig, and start to pack...
