Did you notice there wasn't Peaches in the title? That's because every post will include peaches for awhile. It's just kind of part of life right now. If we're not picking peaches, then we are checking them for ripeness, sorting them, peeling/cutting them for eating or freezing, or just plain admiring them. When you only get a nice crop every four or five years, the "on" year is pretty fun. So you (well, I do anyway) take a lot of pictures and really enjoy all this fragrant delicious fruit. And it really is fragrant. Walking into the orchard - and the basement kitchen - is a party for the nose.
And if I remember, I'll share my frozen peaches recipe soon because I don't know that I have it written down anywhere; and one of these years I'll likely forget it.
Anyway, so Friday we cleaned off the two Fourth of July trees, and Saturday morning we started picking from this Gala tree.
We also started one of the two Reliance trees. Although the ones still on the tree are getting more color so we maybe jumped the gun on this one.
Reliance -
Gala -
You may not be able to tell from the pictures, but Gala peaches are huge.
Lest you think we are master gardeners, we are not. This year's onion crop was the worst we've ever had. I have no idea why. Too wet and muddy? Too dry? Bad soil? Whatever the reason, this is it. I still have nice onions in the frig from last year's crop, and then there's this year's pathetic bunch ๐
Owell.
We took Jason to the lake for a little while so Lucy could get a nap. Travis likes to be up with her at night. Isn't that sweet? ๐๐
Soon after I took Jason home for his nap, this sweet crew came for the evening. I was so glad for Tori's help - - -
because the rest of the crew was busy putting up hay. Glad Kinsey joined the crew.
This is the second load. Notice the clouds building?
Waiting for the third load -
while enjoying a little dessert. Isn't this messy little chubs just the cutest?๐
And then it rained.
And stopped. And started. And stopped. Etc.
This picture is from Sarah, taken while they secured load #3. This load took refuge under a Casey's roof while hungry crew members had pizza and waited for the rain to stop long enough for them to dash home.
๐
Which they eventually did; and the hay made it to the shed to wait for a dryer day to be put into the barn.
Meanwhile, Levi & Echo got back (Happy Birthday, Echo!) and we hung around inside because the rain did NOT cool anything down at all. It was humid and sticky and we. are. very. glad. for our air conditioner.
Oh, have I mentioned that before?
Well, anyway we still are. The older I get, the less enthralled I am with heat. Whereas summer used to be my favorite season, it's not so much anymore. Wonder why that is, hmmm?
Flint was so intent on this digger.
Jesse shared this on Saturday evening.
"Proof he does open his eyes."
Ino I'm prejudiced, but man, that is one cute baby.
And that is one cute Grandpa ๐. Jesse's came for supper then Sunday evening, and Dad got to meet his newest grandson.
It's hard to take turns. Really hard. But we do our best to share.
Jason doesn't lack for attention either, oh no.
Travis was so good all evening and let everyone hold him some. He was awake for awhile later and just looked around and melted us all (well, me anyway) with those big dark eyes. Truly a miracle.
Who can say there is not a God?

Walk later after Jesse's left.
Impossible to capture the magnificent beauty of the sky...
But I try.
