Well so I didn’t take many px of last week’s gray but there was a lot of it. For some reason I’m not very motivated to photograph gray. I just like blue better I guess. And I did capture quite a bit of the blue we saw, especially the weekend. Also got a few inside px that Sarah didn’t use on Friday’s post - - -
This was last week one day, not sure just when. I love listening to these two go.
A few more glimpses of Thursday evening’s beauty - - -
Cool how the clanging of the gate draws the cows home.
Beautiful.
Josh has been making his own scrambled eggs for breakfast for a while now, and last week he ventured into omelettes.
He does a great job!
Beautiful sky Friday evening.
Came home from walking with Dad to find a most delightful fire.
Came inside, planning to make a cloud dessert. Made a flop of a meringue instead! After doing some research on it, I made a successful one which was delicious. How do you flop it you ask? Years ago I flopped this once and had no idea what I did wrong. Back then there wasn’t google, and I don’t know why I didn’t ask anyone what went wrong, but I didn’t. Well, so before supper I had made pizza dough in this bowl and simply rinsed it with hot water, knowing I was going to use it again after supper and figuring to use soap after the meringue was done. Bad idea. Also I let a tad bit of yolk slip through, figuring it didn’t matter. Bad idea. Between the two bad ideas, there was obviously fat in the bowl, which is the culprit. For whatever reason (I’m not a chemist so can’t explain why), fat prevents egg whites from stiffening. So my meringue batter didn’t stiffen. It didn’t fill with air; but, rather, had the odd texture of melted marshmallow fluff. Obviously was not going to bake into the delicious meringue I craved. Bad for me, I didn’t photograph the flop before I dumped it down the drain, but I did think to photograph this successful one. Mainly so anyone who wants to try this can see how high on the beaters the meringue batter is. It really rises a lot as it fills with air and stiffens. Also if you’re wanting to try a meringue for the first time, I suggest a quick google for tips. Such things like a copper bowl (I don’t have one, oh well), eggs at room temperature, and no fat in the bowl can ensure success. And thus no wasted eggs!
Beautiful Saturday morning.
Since older crew was gone, younger crew got to help Dad & Grandpa.
Trip to Morton for errands ended at Dairy Queen and the neighboring Memorial Plaza. Neat place for kids.
Home to fly a kite. This picture is deceptive. The day was beautiful, oh yes. But maybe it was too windy – the kite would consistently nosedive from that high altitude. Made for a tad bit of grouch.
Which didn’t deter from the gorgeous day.
And it was pretty fun while it lasted!
Checking on the water flow.
Used car lot.
Kids had a great *safe* time at Starved Rock State Park. A beautiful day to hike with friends.
Saturday evening we were blessed to celebrate the Lord’s supper with our church family. What a precious time of year as we remember the suffering, death, and resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ.
Yesterday was Palm Sunday. We appreciated thoughts on Planting and Watering at All Church Sunday School and a visiting minister who both reminded us of that special Sunday so long ago and challenged us to a closer walk with our Lord. So much to think on. Greg pointed out how emotion can carry us away – were there those in the crowd who were praising Jesus on Palm Sunday that, caught in the emotion and excitement of the moment, turned on Jesus just a few days later when He was crucified? Obviously we’ll never know, but the point was that our feelings can control our actions; we have to be careful to live by faith, not feeling.
Walking to the lake after church, we saw a pair of huge birds of prey. They skimmed low over the lake but we never saw them catch anything. I don’t know birds so have no idea what kind they were.
Levi & Echo took a few kids mushroom hunting with them before supper. Echo found these few; kids found none but had a great time anyway. Thanks Levi & Echo!
Happy to have A. Sarah with us for her birthday.
Then to the Easter Program after supper for another special evening with our church family.
And that’s it for our sunshine weekend.
