March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

2-3-14 Young Group Butchering

by Kate

Saturday we butchered with the young group. This was the second year that we have done it so we kind of knew how to run everything.

Killing the hogs went very smoothly.

Tabitha and I watching. There wasn’t anything to do until they started cutting off chunks of meat for us to cut.

Once Laura came, we mixed all the spices.

Lunch time.

While I was getting something, they (I think it was Brittany) took off the oranges and put on another roll, and then Tori took a picture of it to make it look like all I was eating was rolls and cookies. I wasn’t!

We had a great day.

Also, we didn’t take any pictures of her, but Mom was in the house busy making rolls and soups and getting everything ready for lunch. I don’t think Mom or Dad ever came out to the shed.

                                                                                          THE END.

[editor’s note: Kate’s right. Dad & I never set foot in the shed. The kids handled it all and, from all reports, they did fine without us. I did indeed make rolls and soup, but Friday the girls had chopped all the vegetables for the soup, made all the cookies and bars, and sliced all the cheese and relishes. And Sarah was a good help since Kate & Tori were outside all morning.]

2-1-14 Good-bye January

Blackie Kenny has been privileged to spend some time inside lately. ONLY on the tile, and NOT on furniture. OR pillows.  [oops]

I’ve been amazed at the uses for Dad’s white board.

Last week we ate our last two Fuji apples. Sad day. They were sooo good. I got some pretty good ones at Aldi yesterday, but they’re just not the same.  No contest.
