March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

2-9-13 Young Group Butchering

Planning & preparations…

P1270366

Marv donated two hogs, we provided the facilities, and the young people did the work. 7:00 brought men to help with killing, which is not very pleasant so I won’t share those pictures; this photo journal starts with Jacob pulling one of the hogs into the shed.

I have no px of the completed sausage – all 275# or so of it. Boxes of packages were distributed among drivers who had their lists of recipients of whole hog fresh sausage. The place was deserted for awhile while deliveries were made.; meanwhile, back at the ranch we continued clean up and prepared for lunch. For the record – this food line worked well.

Delicious lunch and then everyone took off to enjoy the rest of their Saturday elsewhere.

Thank you to all that helped!

Our hope is that all who attended enjoyed the morning as much as we did - making memories, strengthening friendships, and glorifying God by serving others in His name.

As we have therefore opportunity, let us do good unto all men, especially unto them who are of the household of faith.

2-6-13 Enjoy A Chuckle

I found these notes stuck in a crack in my desk a few days ago - - - - -

This was from back when we were in extreme water conservation mode; I’ll title this list - - -

Water-Saving Ideas We Didn’t Do

1. Pump water from the creek into the well.

2. Shower with clothes on.

3. Do laundry in ice rink.

4. Collect dew using tarps; funnel into water tank.

Evidently this next note was from way back when Jewel was a baby; I remember it was at mealtime when it happened. Ben (age 4) and Sarah (age 2) were doing some laughing peek-a-boo, getting a bit wild with it. Jacob said, “We need a barrier so Ben and Sarah can’t make faces at each other.”

Ben was quiet for a little bit before he said, all cute and serious, “We’re not going to bury our baby!”

Have a wonderful day!!

2-4-13 Stormy, Misty’s Foal

by Sarah

There once was a horse named Misty. She was about to have a foal. Two kids named Paul and Maureen took care of her. Then there was a flood and they locked her in the house. Then she had her foal. They named her foal Stormy because she was born on a stormy night.  Then their cat named Wait-A-Minute had four cute kittens.

Read more of this book by Marguerite Henry to learn more about Stormy, Misty, and Wait-A-Minute.
