March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

April Life

by Jewel

I don't know if this kiddo has made it into any posts yet, but if she hasn't this is Vivian who we've started babysitting a few times recently and is cute as a button. She really likes going outside, although she's a little intimidated by the animals.

One Friday we had Kinsey over for a movie night and sleepover. Don't ask how late we stayed up; that's confidential. J.K. we actually weren't up that late, considering we were with Kinsey on a Friday night.

Saturday was another workday for Dad and the boys, since Dad has been busy working on a fence in the pasture. Jacob and Dad have also been on a  big tree-cutting kick lately, and so they probably cut down a bunch of brush and logs, since that's how most of our Saturdays have been recently.

We also went over to Levi & Echo's for pizza, and Jesse and Lucy were there too. It was pretty nice out, so we spent a lot of time outside until it got dark. As you can see, Smoky the kitty is a very longsuffering cat.

Maybe the boys should have stayed outside, since Flint was pretty wound up for a while. Of course, U. Ben doesn't help the situation either. For some reason Flint just loves Ben and Josh.

Everybody who wanted to got a chance to hold Jace. For a newborn, he's pretty cute.

Listening to church on Sunday morning. I don't' remember who preached, and yes, there was some discussion during the sermon.

Lately Katie and I have been riding over to Suzanne's on Sunday or Saturday afternoons; so the last couple of weekends if Katie and I were seen on horses together, you could probably assume we were going to Suzanne's.

And this is picture proof of what has been happening in the pasture. Take note of the nice, new, straight fence line.

Dad's three bred cows.

A treasure that Josh found in the creek.

Another day of fencing done.

Choretime.

Once jobs are done and everybody's back home, things just turn into a giant nap fest for the lazy people in the house. aka the big kids.

Tori also spent one very constructive Sunday afternoon building a crown of thorns for decoration. I must admit, it looks pretty cool, and painful.

Certain of us were desperate to get into the sun, since the other options were to freeze or do the unheard of thing called getting on a hoodie.

We also spent some time at Gpa and Gma Kaiser's house singing and chit-chatting.

and then we did the same at Gpa Steiner's house. Restmor is closed down so we couldn't see Grandma, but we have been in contact with her too.

Grandpa just can't stay away from his white shed. We stay our distance, but we still are around to help if he needs it.

Echo and the kids came over for awhile, and so everybody enjoyed the sun and warmth on the trampoline. Flint and Kiowa are SOOOO cute, and they both get pretty wound up on the trampoline.

They were also pretty impressed with Josh's burial, and really wanted to help, but for his safety we said no.

I don't know what day this was, but Josh went down to the creek and Sarah and I went to the lake/lake beach for awhile, while Mom walked.

Yes, Josh and I both went off the rope swing a couple of times. It was really cold but super refreshing. It wasn't the cold that bothered me, it was the dark green water with nobody else in the water that bothered me.

Meanwhile, Mom enjoyed the sand a lot.

Our evenings have been spent just hanging out, and Dad has been working on some tree-planting projects around the house.

Boys found these beautiful flowers for mom on a walk.

We had Vivian again on whatever day this was, and she really likes Josh, in case you can't tell. Josh isn't quite so enthralled with her, but they get along.

Mom apparently spent an eventful afternoon picking up sticks.

I may not be an expert about moving vehicles, but I can totally see Josh or Ben (for sure Josh) jumping off the trailer while it's still moving and then just biffing it, which would actually be a privilege to watch.

Friday was my birthday too, so we had Monicals Pizza for supper and I got some cool presents. Thanks Mom and Dad and all who gave me something!

Welcome April

by Sarah
Wednesday April 1 we had Anya and Joelle, and Joelle finally mastered the hover board! She absolutely loves it! When she gets to our house, usually the first thing she asks is "Wheresa baby?", then second, she goes running to Josh's room to get the hoverboard. Which can also be a slight problem, because Clay also thinks he owns the hoverboard so there are sometimes fights over it. So as a result of fights and little kids always falling off, the hoverboard is now sometimes conveniently "lost" on Wednesdays:)

We have been doing lots of tree trimming, so Josh's task is to haul away all the branches.

Anya loved being outside! She even took her morning nap out there.

You can see that Joelle is in the middle of a very high jump right now, but don't let that deceive you into thinking she's coordinated. She was probably sprawled all over the ground in the next second:)

Four-wheeler rides are always a hit.

You saw from the last post that we finally took down the last pine tree, so the next step was to grind down the stumps and reseed that area.

More branches to haul away.

And more trimming.

We started planting the garden Wednesday afternoon. We did onions, peas, lettuce, spinach, and a row of green beans. The rest will wait until warmer days.

There was lots of this going on all week. People out enjoying the sunshine and warmth!

And it's reseeded! I gotta say though, there is only one thing wrong about tearing out the last pine tree. It made a prime spying/hideout spot while playing capture the flag/kick the can/gray wolf. Oh well. We'll get over it. If we have to.

Josh dug out Grandpa's old mower from the shed and decided he'd do a little mowing. I can hardly imagine having to mow our entire property with a push mower like that. I have to admit I really like just sitting on a nice big zero-turn listening to music and doing as minimal work as possible.

And now we're back to 40 degrees and windy! Woohoo! *heavy sarcasm :)*
