March 2024

March 2024
Over the years, we've always compared our family life to a wagon train heading west. Just as everyone had to do his part to get to Oregon years ago, so everyone in our family must do his/her part to make our journey through life successful. If somebody climbs in the wagon and lets the others do the work, we just don't make any progress. We all have to pull our weight and work together. Along the trail we find lots of pebbles that make for a smooth ride and some bigger rocks that jar us a little; we hit the occasional pothole that can slow us down. But if we purpose to search diligently, there are countless gold nuggets and precious gemstones along the way as well. This journal is an attempt to preserve some of those precious moments for our children, and our children's children, as together we travel this trail called life.

Thou wilt shew me the path of life: in thy presence is fulness of joy; at thy right hand there are pleasures for evermore. Psalm 16:11

Farewell Lake Days

By Sarah

Now that it has gotten cooler out, we've had very few lake days. I think the pictures below are of the very last lake day that we had.

Beautiful blue skies.

On that last Wednesday lake day, we had Sue & Alliyah and Janelle & two boys out to the lake. Cason was pretty proud of the sand houses that he was building. If Clay so much as took a step in their direction, then it was instant freak out time, because he thought Clay was going to wreck them.

Stinking cute little Alliyah had a great time playing with Josh. Actually judging from the looks on both of their faces, I would guess that Alliyah was doing something that Josh didn't like.

Clay thought it was the bomb.com that he got to sit on the four-wheeler.

Josh has a Monarch chrysalis that we were looking at.

Friday night Jewel and I weren't here to witness this since we were at a cousins sleepover, but I would guess that Jacob decided that it was his turn to wash up Kiowa, and decided to do it his own way.

IMG_5943

Kiowa seems to be enjoying it all right.

IMG_5945

What a fun toy. Sometimes the non toys are the best toys.

Saturday when we kept three Aberles, Bristol got to help me make banana bread. Wyatt helped for a little while too, but there are no pictures.

IMG_5950

Blanket houses. Recognize the same box?

IMG_5951

This was a little tiny window and Bristol managed to get her entire head into it. She got stuck like that, and I had to help her get out.

IMG_5953

Josh got out his monster truck for awhile, which set Brandi into hysterics, which inspired Wyatt with a new game. Ride on somebody's back while the somebody chases the monster truck. What a fun time!

IMG_5955

Reading books after we came in. Bristol was almost falling asleep until the camera came out, and then she was a wiggle bomb.

IMG_5957

On Sunday Jake and Josh went for a four-wheeler ride.

The two black calves are the only calves that were born this year. There was actually a set of twins but they were both stillborn.

Sunday night Levi and Echo came over.

IMG_5966

Ben was pretty sure he was getting the chair and Dad was pretty sure that he was not.

Marv & Paula and Jesse & Lucy came over after supper, and since we didn't have enough chairs, Kate and Bethany shared one.

In spite of the heat, we had a great time at Wildlife Prairie Park on Monday. We waited a few minutes so Kate could go with us. Jacob stayed home to work on his truck.

Always so fun to watch little ones’ eyes as they see new things like wild animals.
